Torcedor being aimed at 2019 Melbourne Cup
European stayer Torcedor missed travelling to Australia for the Melbourne Cup last year but is being aimed at the 2019 race.
A low-grade virus prevented Torcedor making the flight to Australia and the seven-year-old son of Fastnet Rock has not raced since finish last of seven in a Group I race over 2400m at Cologne last September.
Now owned by Australian Bloodstock, Torcedor is now trained by Andreas Wohler, who prepared Protectionist to win the 2014 Melbourne Cup for the syndicator.
Australian Bloodstock director Jamie Lovett told Melbourne radio RSN927 on Monday if Torcedor can find the form that saw him finish runner-up to Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup (2 miles) and third The Gold Cup (2m4f) in 2018 he will be the syndicators main contender for Australia's greatest race.
"The plan is to have him nice and fit and go straight into a lead up race to the German St Leger and then go straight into quarantine," Lovett said.
