Retired teachers won't solve COVID-related staff shortages, school principals group warns

Retired and trainee teachers may not be available to meet the shortfall if too many educators become infected with COVID at once, the Australian Primary Principals Association (APPA) warns.
As schoolchildren prepare to return to the classroom, there are plans in several states to ask retired teachers and trainees to fill gaps in the school workforce left by those isolating with COVID.
But APPA President Malcolm Elliott has warned some schools may close if Omicron takes hold in their community.
