As Australia burns it's time politicians woke up to reality

This week Australia is enduring apocalyptic bushfires. ("'Don't bring politics into the fire' ", November 12). My own community of Wytaliba was devastated. Two of our community are dead. Many are in hospital. Our school is gone, the bridge gone, sheds, outbuildings, infrastructure and some 60 homes, my own precious, handmade sanctuary, 30 years in the making, among them.

It's hard to comprehend the magnitude of loss and how we will recover. Yet, as we (the lucky ones), stand in the ashes of our dreams, we know it is not just bad luck. It's linked to unprecedented heating in the Antarctic and other climate changes - concerns that the Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack disparaged as the ravings of "capital city greenies" while the state, and our rural community, burned.
